Community Rules (full)

The full version of the community rules. The short version is on the previous page.

1What these rules cover

Everything on Fern: clips, photos, the text on them, titles and captions, comments, messages, and profiles (names, usernames, pictures, bios and links). They’re part of the Terms of Service, and they apply to everyone. The short version is the same rules in a few lines.

2No scams

  • No fake giveaways, “send me crypto and I’ll double it”, wallet drainers, phishing or fake support accounts.
  • No links whose point is to take someone’s money, password, seed phrase or keys.
  • No pretending to be a company, an exchange, a known investor or Fern.
  • No asking members for money, gift cards or crypto, for any reason.

3No pumping or market manipulation

  • Don’t organise people to buy or sell together to move a price, or hype something so you can sell into it.
  • Don’t post things you know are false or misleading to move a price, such as a made-up deal, filing or headline.
  • Don’t promise guaranteed or risk-free returns.
  • Don’t share or claim inside information: anything material about a company that isn’t public.
  • If someone paid you, in money, tokens or anything else, to post about something, say so in the post.

Talking up something you own is fine. Say that you own it.

4No threats, harassment or hate

  • No threats of violence, and nothing that encourages anyone to hurt someone.
  • No bullying, no repeated unwanted contact, and no sending people to pile on someone.
  • No slurs, and no attacks on people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age.
  • No wishing or celebrating someone’s death or injury, and no encouraging self-harm.

5No private information

Never post someone else’s home address, phone number, ID or account numbers, which wallet is theirs, private messages, or anything else that could be used to find, impersonate or hurt them, even if it can be found somewhere else.

6Nothing sexual, and nothing involving minors

No nudity and no sexual content, in posts, comments or messages.

Anything that sexualises, grooms or endangers a child is removed, preserved and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), which works with the police, and the account is closed. If a child is in danger right now, call 911. NCMEC’s own line is 1-800-843-5678.

If an intimate image or video of you was shared without your consent, ask for its removal on the Remove intimate images page. We act within 48 hours.

7No graphic violence or dangerous acts

No gore, no footage of real violence posted to shock or to celebrate it, and nothing that promotes violent groups or shows people how to hurt themselves or others.

8Be who you are

  • Don’t pretend to be another person or a company. A parody or fan account has to say so in its name and bio.
  • Don’t buy, sell or trade accounts or usernames.
  • Don’t make a new account to get around a limit or a ban, or use several to fake agreement or likes.
  • If you post AI-made or edited media that could pass as real, like a clip of a CEO or a doctored chart, say so in the post.

9Post your own work

Don’t upload someone else’s video, chart, photo or writing as though it were yours. Quoting a clip or a headline to talk about it is fine; passing it off isn’t. If your work turns up here, the Copyright page says how to have it taken down.

10No spam

No bots or scripts, no bought or swapped likes and follows, no following and unfollowing in bulk, no posting the same thing over and over, no flooding comments with links or off-topic posts, and no selling or advertising. Post because you have something to say.

11Nothing illegal

No offering or asking for drugs, weapons, stolen accounts or data, fake documents or hacking services, and no offering financial services you aren’t licensed to offer, such as managing other people’s money or selling paid signals.

12No financial advice

Fern is for watching, reading and talking about markets. A take is an opinion, not a recommendation: don’t present it as one, don’t claim qualifications you don’t have, and don’t act on anyone else’s as if it were advice. The Disclaimer says more.

13What happens when a rule is broken

Depending on how serious it is and what came before, we can:

  • take the post, comment or picture down;
  • limit the account, so it can’t post, comment or send messages, for a day, a week, a month or until we lift it;
  • ban it for a while, from a day up to a year;
  • delete it;
  • report it to NCMEC or to the police.

Child exploitation, real threats and scams can go straight to deletion. Every action on an account is taken by a person, with the reason written down.

14How posts are checked

New posts, comments and direct messages are screened automatically, by an AI model among other things. One that looks like it might break these rules is held while it waits, hidden or not delivered, and a person decides. A person also looks at every report within 24 hours. We can’t see everything, so reports matter.

15Reporting and blocking

Tap the ⋯ on a post or a profile, or the flag on a comment, to report it or block the person. Reports are anonymous. Blocking hides the two of you from each other straight away, and you can undo it in Settings.

16Appeals

If we took something down or acted on your account and you think we got it wrong, write to thefern.app@gmail.com with your username and what happened. A person looks at it again, and we reply within 24 hours.

17Changes

When these rules change, the date at the top changes, and we’ll say so in the app if the change matters.
